Best Set Design of the F/W season 2013 | CÉLINE

Although this took place over two months ago, we would like to highlight the fact Purple DIARY named Architects Casper Mueller Kneer’s set design for CÉLINE ‘THE BEST SET DESIGN OF THIS SEASON’.

Held at the Tennis Club de Paris, in Paris, the Architect firm constructed a temporary space within the venue for Paris Fashion Week March 2013. The traditional cat walk protocol that consists of a clear division between runway and audience was dissolved in this project. instead a "new floor, two walls and a low ceiling suspended off the existing 13m high vaulted space demarcate a ‘field’ that is shared between models and audience. Tightly packed seating is broken down into small units and scattered throughout the space, creating ‘alleys’ and ‘squares’ through which the models meander in close proximity to the viewer"

A soft, restrained palette of materials as well as colour worked perfectly with the use of industrial building products that underline the temporary nature of this great construction.

H-Orange by Takuro Yamamoto Architects

The H-ORANGE, which sits beautifully on its own, is located in the middle of Tokyo near a small field with trees. The architects took advantage of the view by opening up the the west side of the second floor with widely opened windows, as well a large terrace. However the view is unfortunately walled by bricks which makes the area feel restricted. To combat that issue there is a "Tilt Beam" which spans 12 meters over the terrace. The "Tilt beam" hides the brick wall from view, so that only only the blue sky and green woods are visible form within the home. Its also functional on a practical level too, by preventing people form falling off the terrace as well as introducing more privacy to the family home.
